About Our Tree House

Our tree house was built entirely of reclaimed architectural antiques, so staying here is akin to dwelling inside a historic art project with wrap-around views of the bamboo forest.  The structure is wrapped in cedar and 120 year-old heart of pine siding salvaged from an old Atlanta house and furnished with antiques.  Details include several pieces of late 1800s stained glass, heart of pine floors from a church constructed in 1905, 120-year-old French doors that open onto a wrap- around catwalk, and century old multi colored beaded board. The stairs leading up to the house are live-edge slabs of heart cedar and the spindles are the bamboo removed when the treehouse was constructed. The roof is clad in 1871 South Georgia barn tin, so if it rains during your stay, you'll have a night of gentle percussive rhythm to rock you to sleep.

You'll be high above the forest floor during your stay at the Atlanta Alpaca Treehouse - tucked into the heart of a magical, 80-year-old bamboo forest, which seamlessly blends into the edge of our organic farm. Beautiful Bolivian suri alpacas and llamas (Dali is our queen bee) live here and roam underneath the tree house as they forage for tasty treats.

Every morning, you'll wake up in a queen-size memory foam bed in our climate-controlled loft. Take a moment and gaze out the large skylight, or open the French doors to get a better look at the beautiful bamboo swaying in the breeze. Take a nap and snuggle your special someone in our swinging Bali bed, suspended from the treehouse framing and decked out with full-sized mattress + a slew of comfy pillows.

Relax and enjoy our amenities. The fully functional (running water) marble bathroom is a short walk down our beautiful stone path through the bamboo forest. Other amenities include: a composting toilet, small fridge, a Keurig coffee maker, three gallons of potable water, and an antique enamelware wash basin to wash your face. Guest Access

The treehouse sleeps up to 2 guests. There's a queen size memory foam bed in the sleeping loft with high thread count sheets, a duvet, and sumptuous pillows. We also have a leather sofa (no longer a sofa bed) in the main room of the tree house. The tree house also boasts a large, covered large porch, a private marbled water closet with a composting toilet, as well as a fully dedicated marble bathroom (located in the basement of the granite house nearby) with a gorgeous walk-in shower, a 1926 vitreous china sink, and a modern toilet.

Guest Interaction

We (Kara & Kate) live in the granite house and are available if and when guests have questions. We provide contactless check in, but as we are a working farm, you’ll likely see us feeding animals out in the front area. You'll have a chance to meet our menagerie of endangered chickens, cute alpacas, bunnies, and our poised llamas. We grow our own organic fruits and vegetables and have three coops of pampered, spoiled rotten chickens (which lay beautiful, organic eggs!).

Things to Note

Parking. There is parking for two cars available at the back gate--please pull up and park in front of the vintage 1930s stove. If there are more than two cars, please park across the street on Mary Dell. There is a dedicated stone forest path that leads to the treehouse, in the middle of the bamboo forest.

Bathroom. There is another dedicated stone path that leads to the private marble bathroom in the basement of the granite house--go under the treehouse, past the Bali Bed, up the hill and through the double gates. Follow the path to the bathroom.

Petting the animals. You may pet the animals on the neck (they hate having their faces touched) and may feed them baby organic carrots or organic sliced pears or apples. They LOVE them.

Additional Events. Contact us if you're interested in having a wedding here (they are so magical!), would like to use our property for an engagement shoot/music video/television show, or as the backdrop for your small event. Each booking requires different rates and terms, and we are more than happy to discuss with you so we can accommodate your vision!

FAQ

Q. Did you plant this bamboo?  (our most asked question)

We did not. We think it was planted in the 1940s or 50s because of its size and density. Bamboo is a grass and there is one root system (rhizome) for all of it. It is also highly invasive, but luckily our animals think the new sprouts are delicious! It can grow two feet a day and it is rumored that guests can hear it growing during the night.

Q. Why do you have alpacas & llamas?

We got them as pets.  Chickens are a “gateway livestock” and we wanted something unique.  At the time, we were also constantly rescuing other people’s goats and decided we didn’t want to be herding goats daily.  After a little research, we found that llamas and alpacas don’t challenge fences and are highly intelligent. Bonus: their fur can be spun into fiber for clothing!

Q. What do you do with the llamas & alpacas?

They are our spoiled pets and that’s why we have them. We shear them annually for beautiful fiber and have it spun into yarn for scarves, hats, mittens, etc.   We often walk the llamas around the neighborhood. We do llama yoga in the barn, experience tours, and loads of free yoga classes for bereaved parents and children in palliative care.
